Joseph nodded with a smile. "Yeah, the school's track team. I'm not really the best at it, but..." Joseph trailed off for a second, looking to the sky. "It's always been something I liked to do. Running is...it never changes, you know? It's always something you can use, something you can do whenever you're in trouble, or scared." Esau rubbed his head against Joseph's chest, picking up on his master's change of mood. Joseph smiled at the lamb, gently patting his head. "Sorry," he smiled sheepishly. "I tend to get...'lost' in my thoughts." Oh great. She probably thought he was some kind of idiot now.

"I'm sure you're better at it than you give yourself credit for," she tilted her head. "And... I sorta get what you mean. As long as you're not running away, right?" she said jokingly. "Nah, I understand. I like to take long flights in the middle of the night... helps me clear my head." Until I almost get shot down by a sadistic jet or something. She decided it would be best to leave that part out.

Joseph smiled. He was liking this girl more by the minute. Not in a crush way, but in a respective way. She was much more intelligent than the girls he had grown up around. And pretty nice, too. She seemed dependable. There had been one time when he had run away. No, two times. Once when a wolf had gone after Esau, and the other time...that night when Potiphar's wife had come into his room. He closed his eyes briefly, trying not to think about it.

Sari took a half-step towards him, noticing a slight change in his expression. "...hey, you okay?"

Joseph blinked, blushing when he realized what had happened. "Uh, yeah, sorry about that," he said sheephishly. "I was just..." He shook his head. "Have you ever...been accused of something you didn't do? And no matter what you said, no one believed you?"

Sari took a step back, placing a hand on her chin. "Hmm... sort of. Not exactly. There was a time I couldn't even prove I even existed, but... that's probably way off of what you're thinking of."
She crossed her arms. "Why do you ask?"

Joseph sighed. "No reason. It's just...I seem to have a knack for getting accused of things," he shrugged. "My employer," he stopped himself. Was he actually about to tell this girl what had happened to him? No, he couldn't. He could only give her the gist of it. "There was a situation, with my employer's wife. She...she's the reason I'm here." His face darkened slightly. No, it wasn't her fault. It was his brothers fault. If they hadn't left him alone that one night... "But I suppose it wasn't all bad," he smiled softly. "I've managed to make at least one friend since I came here."

Sari's expression turned sympathetic. "I'm... I'm sorry." She was about to place a hand on his shoulder, but decided against it and instead began to fumble with the glowing blue orb on her chest. "One friend? That's good at least," she smiled.
"Who is it?" She had a hunch, but once again, she didn't want to assume anything.

"Don't mention it," he shook his head, a small smile on his face. "And...well, I guess it would be you, seeing as how you're the only one who's really talked to me since I came here," he gave a little laugh. He eyed the way she touched the little ball of light on her chest. He was curious, but decided against asking.

Sari's face lit up. "Really? Awesome! Uh, that I'm your friend, that is. Its not awesome how no one's talked to you. I mean, I thought people would be more outgoing at a high school, like on TV and stuff." She realized she was rambling, and cleared her throat. She then noticed him glance at the light on her chest and pointed at it. "Its nothin' special," she smiled.

The boy gave a little laugh. "Yeah, I sort of hoped that too," he ran a hand through the back of his hair. Esau started to tug at Joseph's shirt with his teeth. Joseph frowned, pulling his mouth away from the fabric. "Alright, I get it, you're hungry. But my shirt is not a meal." He smiled up at Sari. "Hey, I've got to go get him something to eat. You wanna come along?"

Sari stood on her toes and nodded happily. "Sure, I'd love to!" She fell back onto her feet once more, and scratched the back of her head, just a little embarrassed. "Heh."

Joseph smirked, chuckling a little. With Esau in his arms, he walked off towards the edge of the courtyard, motioning for Sari to follow. There were plenty of weeds and tufts of grass that Esau would gladly eat. "So, have you ever had a pet?" He asked Sari with a smile.

Sari floated after him, a few inches off the ground. "Yep. Sort of. I guess. His name was Sparkplug. He was a robot dog my dad built to keep me company when I was growing up," she smiled, remembering all the times he had stolen her key, or had gotten possessed by a Headmaster unit and tried to kill her. Fun times. "But no, I've never had a real pet."

"Wow," Joseph replied. This girl was just full of surprises. Setting Esau down gently, he smiled as the little lamb went straight to work at devoring the tasty underbrush. "Well, I've had Esau for about a year now," he smiled, patting the animal's head. "He just doesn't seem to want to grow."
