(title comes from dave matthews song. and YES, Hanna is old enough to legally drink.)
Hanna didn't even enjoy drinking, so he sat at the bar in the karaoke joint nursing a bottle of beer and pretending it wasn't empty just to avoid turning into a crying sobbing mess. He looked up at the barkeep, "I hate it, you know?"
He pretended to take a swig, "You know when you fall in love, and everything's perfect, and you're practically married by magic and you just feel worthless? Like... it's pity or something? She's just so... flirty with him and..."
He wiped his eyes, "It sucks."

Maka walked into the bar and crossed her arms at the red head sitting on the bar stool. Looking around she found a spot near the bar close enough where she could here Hanna, but he wouldn't see her. She'd changed into her yellow hoodie anyways so she doubted he'd recognise her with the hood up. How she knew where to find him was still writen on her palm, she'd felt that something was up and went to investigate.

"I heard what he was thinking, y'know?" He pretended to swig again, wiping the ever-present tears from his eyes, "He actually thought he wished I was was dead when he glared at me like that. I... I just..."
He choked on his words and held his eyes, "I love her so very much. I'd give my life for her, and it's.... He wants to steal her from me. He's planning ways to, I can hear him."
He was sobbing, like he didn't want to. Broken and crying.

He shouldn't be here.
Joseph knew it, and his conscience was yelling the same thing over and over again in his ears: leave. Lord knows he wanted to. His father would have been so upset to know that his son was currently working as a bus boy in a karaoke joint with an all night bar, but there wasn't really any alternative. Joseph had to work off his own school tuition, and this was the only way. He also worked at the school part time as a janitor. But that alone didn't pay all the money necessary to allow him to stay at Animated High year round. So as he sat behind the dingy bar, watching this fellow student try to cover up the fact that his beer bottle was empty, he could only shake his head in sympathy, half for himself and half for this poor sap.
"Hey, buddy," Joseph spoke softly. "I don't know much about girls, but I do know this. If she makes you this upset, maybe she's not worth it, you know?"

Hanna spun around at Joseph, "SHE IS WORTH IT. She's worth everything I ever could do... It's just that Soul kid is trying to take her away and I just... don't want her to leave. He's an idiot and won't treat her how she needs to be treated. Nicely, and with respect. Like a gentleman should." He started crying, his voice softer as he went on.

Maka walked over to Hanna and touched his shoulder lightly. "Hanna?" she asked softly smiling at the boy, "Don't worry about Soul okay? There's really nothing there." She kissed his cheek and played his words over in her mind. Why he would think she'd leave him was beyond her.

"To him, there is," Hanna sobbed, "He's basically told me through his thoughts. He's in love with you and he said he'd fight me and m-maybe even eradicate me for you." He hadn't cried this hard since... his parents died.

Joseph stepped back at Hanna's sudden anger. Blinking, he could only nod his head furiously. "Hey, hey, take it easy." Biting his lip, Joseph's brow furrowed as Hanna continued to sob. Glancing beside him, he spotted a girl who had been sitting at the bar get up and walk over to Hanna. His eyes widened as she leaned down to kiss him. Was this the girl the red head had been so upset about? The boy shook his head, turning back to his previous task of cleaning tables. Love is complicated, he thought to himself. He only hoped that nothing would happen to the point where he was crying over something that Taylor had done. "

"Hanna," Maka said trying to catch his eye, "Don't cry." She wiped at his tears with her thumbs. She'd never seen anyone cry like this, she was wondering if maybe she'd broken him or something. "I'm sorry Hanna," she said softly.

He held her hand to his face and sobbed, "I l-love you, Maka. So much. I wanna be your right hand guy. I... I wanna be by your side forever." He was blushing, still crying hard.

"I love you too, Hanna," Maka said kissing his nose, "You are my right hand guy. Soul's just my weapon. He and I have a thing sure, but its for fighting. That's all it is, at least for me."

"Just... I don't trust him. He obviously loves you, so he's gonna try to take you... and I can't always be there and... my runes can only do so much," Hanna looked in her eyes, his clouded with tears, "What if he does something to you... and I'm not there...and...."
The way she looked made him feel more like a pity date.

"Hanna deep breath okay?" Maka said slightly freaking out, "Nothing is going to happen I promise. Soul wont do anything to me and he wont let anything happen to me either."

Hanna took in a deep breath, "D-do you still..." the last part came out as a whisper, "L-love me?"
