Smirking, Grell nodded. "Yes, I am," he said, flashing a toothy smile. A Shinigami that had apparently struck the interest of this Mr. Kabuto, as it were. Though Grell was unsure why the teacher had wanted him to come for an examination, Grell supposed that it might be fun, and he might learn something. And he did love telling people about himself, so it seemed like this was going to be a rather interesting time for the red head. "I take it that you are familiar with my kind?"

Kabuto responded with an entirely fake smile. Fun and interesting as this was going to be, the man he was about the examine was also a serial killer. And this fact would certainly be allowed to bias his examination. "I have never actually met a shinigami, let alone one so different from the ones I was accustomed to seeing. You see, there are two kinds of death gods in my culture. Someone like me," The silver haired man gestured to his white doctorial coat. "who holds the power of life and death legally, and then the more supernatural kind." The Hyuuga reviewed his medical tools again, making sure they were sharp before turning his head to smirk at his patient. "You're of the latter, am I right?"

Grell frowned slightly at the silver-haired man's reply. He had never heard of such a thing...this man called himself a shinigami? Grell shook his head slightly, thinking back to all his time spent in the reaper library with William and Ronald. This man was certainly more of "their type". "Legally, you say?" Grell questioned, resting one hand on his hip. "How cliched...'legal' is such a lenniant word. It's up to the mind of the criminal whether something is 'legal' or not." Pausing, Grell was reminded suddenly of the Jack the Ripper case, and couldn't help but laugh, smirking a little. "But, knowing me, illegal is probably the more appropriate term. I used to be legal, but they don't control me anymore," Grell narrowed his eyes, the "they" in question of course being William T. Spears.

The doctor's eye brow rose at the last comment, but he let it pass. He didn't need to know this man's past, so he'd let it stand. "We doctors are sometime called Shinigami because we know how to save a human life, but also how to end it." He explained. "But our traditional death gods are typically dead men dressed in long clothes, carrying a scythe." Gesturing to Grell's red outfit he continued. "You definately do not fit the type."

Grell chuckled. "Well, I'm certainly not a dead man...I'm quite 'lively' indeed, if you know what I mean," the red head winked. Suddenly, he pulled his familiar death scythe into view, though of course, it was much different looking than the average one, as it resembled a large chainsaw. "But I do fit that last statement. This would be my scythe," the shinigami cradled it lovingly in his arms. "However, I don't see myself wearing long clothes anytime soon. They...get in the way of things," he give a small giggle, thinking of that certain reaper he'd had a crush on, who was one for wearing long, black robes. Undertaker was definitely more stereotypical than Grell.

Well, the "scythe" certainly threw Kabuto for a loop. His old reflex kicked in, the one living with Orochimaru had conditioned, and the medic's body immediately loosened as his chakra began buzzing around his fingertips. It took a few moments before rationality overcame instinct but he finally managed to get out, "What is that?"

Grell raised an eyebrow at the other teacher's reaction, taking a step back defensively at first. He relaxed, however, as the man seemed to calm down and ask him another question. "Why, this is my death scythe. I altered the original, boring design that you see most reapers with to better suit my needs," Grell gave a pointed grin. Adjusting it to lean against his hip, he gestured to the many blades along the body of the device. Frowning slightly, he looked down at it. "I suppose that the term for it now would be a chainsaw, though I hate to think that someone would give it so trivial of a name."

The technical side of his brain kicked in while the emotional half was stalled. "Sorry if I startled you." He apologized. "Would you mind if I asked how it works? And how you managed to summon it? I know of a way to summon weapons, but it usually requires a scroll and seal." His hands automatically reached for his note pad and pen.

Grell grinned broadly, excited for a chance to talk about his machine. "Oh, it's quite simple, really. All there is to it is pulling on this handle here, see?" To demonstrate, Grell pulled on the handle of the device, bringing forth the loud sound of the blades spinning in a steady pace. The scythe sort of shot forth from Grell's grasp, nearly taking off Kabuto's arm just before Grell managed to get it back under control. Smiling sheepishly, Grell let out a nervous laugh. "Sorry about that. Anyway, summon? I'm afraid I don't understand. I built this out of the parts of different death scythes. I fused them together, using each part to it's fullest potential."

Moving smoothly out of the way of the chainsaw, the back of Kabuto's mind was glad that he had already processed the thing as a threat. It made it that much easier for him to respond. "But does your scythe cut their soul from them, or does it simply kill them? That's what I mean by how does it work."

"Ah, I see," Grell nodded, a bit embarrassed for not understanding. "Actually, it does a bit of both. If fate decides to throw me a boring card from the deck, and they're already dead, then it takes care of their soul quite nicely. But if I'm given a good hand...." Grell smiled wickedly. "And I get a chance to kill, then it works just as well as a normal weapon, killing them and taking their soul at the same time." Grell put a finger to his chin, lost for a moment in a particularly gruesome memory that he held dear to him. How he had gotten rid of that pathetic Madame Red, who had so foolishly left herself open for attack by that little Phantomhive brat. How his scythe had driven so cleanly into her back, piercing her completely through her body, and coating her with that thick, velvety richness that was the color red. "Angelina discovered that the hard way," Grell said under his breath, chuckling darkly to himself.

Kabuto wondered how anyone could stay in a room with this man for more than 15 minutes. He literally exuded wanton killing, worse than even Orochimaru or the Akatsuki, and that blade was metaphysical dynamite. Nearly an ultimate death weapon. Half of him was just itching to get his hands it, to see if he could figure out how it worked, even if he wasn't a metallurgist. However, the other half of him was screaming to destroy the weapon at all costs. Someone like this should not be trusted around kids, especially with a weapon like this.
Why was his conscious choosing this of all times to surface? Shaking away his personal convictions, the medic finished scratching down the latest sentence. "Earlier, you pulled it out of this air. How did you do that?"

Grell was a bit stuck at that question. What would be an impressive way to explain something as simple as that? Honestly, he had merely pulled it from a pocket in his jacket, which actually was somewhat impressive he supposed, but not nearly as impressive as pulling something out of air. Perhaps he could use this assumption to do what he always did best--make himself look good. "Mhmm," Grell said, putting a finger to his lips in thought. "Er...I'm merely one hell of a butler?" Sebastian would have killed him on spot for stealing his line. Of course, he would have killed him for merely continuing to exist on this earth, but that was beside the point. "Actually, it's quite simple. I, along with most of my reaper comrades, have a way of keeping them in our pockets. How we accomplish this...in all honesty I have no idea," Grell laughed, shaking his head.

Kabuto's pale eyes widened at this. Pulled it out of his pocket? He shook his head in disbelief and a certain amount of disappointment. Unfortunately, it seemed as though the scythe would be out of his expertise, meaning he would not be able to replicate it. So, he would have to go on to the man himself. "And yourself, Grell? What is it that makes you a Shinigami besides the weapon?"

What made him a Shinigami? Well, the ability to reap souls, of course! But then, that was really only accomplished by use of a death scythe. Oh, think Grell, what was it that William was always harping about being so important?
Glasses. Of course.
Grell smiled, raising a finger to tap the side of his red frames. "These. 'Those who don't know the importance of glasses to reapers should get a pay cut' was a favorite saying of my old boss."
It should have been duelly noted that Grell recieved several paycuts throughout his career as a reaper.
