“Zara…I love you.”
How could I have been so stupid? There was no way that program could ever love me back. Yet I had said that to her and thought for a moment that I was going to hear the words back. Slamming my door behind me I sat down on my bed. I’d gotten off the grid in record time, Zara had no chance of getting off without me. My mom pounded on my door yelling at me to get the hell out of her house. Gladly. I’d be gone in an hour anyways. Grabbing my old backpack and some other things, I headed out of my room and the house. Never looking back, it was something I was use to doing.
Closing my eyes as I walked past my old hang outs and places I headed straight for a building that was known for its computer programs. The place that had started it all for me, ENCOM Tower. I went in and asked for an interview with the chairman. After a week of waiting, I met with the CEO of the company, Sam Flynn.
“What do you want?” he asked.
I knew I didn’t look like much, “A job.”
He stared at me like I was crazy, “What? Why here?”
I crossed my arms and stared at him right in the eyes, “I’m a hacker. I can get you any information you want…I want to make ENCOM the best company, the most secure.”
He looked at me with an amused glance, “What do you know about computers?”
I sighed and placed my hands on his touch screen desk, hacking into his most secure files within a minute, “A lot more than you.”
He just grinned at me, “Welcome to ENCOM…miss?”
“Hail. Astrid Hail.”

“Miss Hail?”
“What?” I asked looking up from my desk. Computers were on every wall around me, glaring with codes and data.
“There’s…a girl here to see you.”
“Send her in then,” I muttered tucking some of my hair behind my ear. The longer hair style made me look more feminine, though I dyed it darker brown and usually kept it clipped in a twist to the side of my head.
I crossed my arms leaning back in my chair as a girl in a red hoodie and jeans walked in. The hood was over her head, so I couldn’t see her features. She seemed lost, really lost.
“Can I help you?” I asked leaning back in my seat.
“Astrid?” the girl’s voice sounded familiar.
“Yeah…that’s my name,” I said.
Before I realized what was happening, the girl crossed the distance between us and hugged me tight. Planting her lips on mine was going too far. I shoved her off of me and stood up, rubbing my hand across my mouth. Her hood had fallen off and she was staring at the ground. Her long black hair pulled into a ponytail, she was pale as death.
“W-why’d you do that?” she asked.
“I don’t…who are you?” I asked adjusting my blue hoodie.
“It’s me…Zara,” she said staring at me with those neon blue eyes that had haunted me for months.
“Get out.”
“W-what?”
“GET OUT!”
