Blood & Bridget
Only a Chance Away
Blood sat in one of the nice patio chairs. He was in the usual spot where he came to think, the rose garden. A cup of tea in his hands, it was a quiet afternoon at Animated High. The teachers had given the students the day off due to a conference. The courtyard was empty, no life in sight.
‘Guess everyone is inside studying.’ Blood thought as he took a sip of his tea. It was so peaceful; he wished he could spend it with someone.
The soft footsteps on the pathway caught his attention. He slowly put the cup down causing his fingers to twitch. He was prepared to take the chance and attack if it was an enemy. However, his tension was erased when the figure appeared. Her dark green hair tied into long braids, blue eyes with a soft expression on her face. Bridget. Yes, that was her name. The only thing different about her was that this time she wore a blue and white gingham dress. Blood slowly stood up and took off his hat before he bowed to her.
“I’m sorry, I did not realize that someone was here.” She said bowing. “I’m sorry.”
Blood shook his head. “It’s no problem.” He smiled. “This rose garden is for everyone.”
Bridget smiled. “It’s so pretty,” she said walking over to get a closer look at the flowers.
“I come here for my afternoon tea.” He glanced at the teapot and teacups sat. “Would you like to join me?”
A faint shade of pink arose in the girl’s cheeks, causing Blood to chuckle. “You-you wouldn’t mind?” she asked.
“On the contrary,” Blood said with a genuine smile. “I would love the company.”
Bridget walked over and slowly took a seat across from him. He poured the tea into an empty cup.
“Thank you.” Bridget said taking the cup from him with such carefulness almost as though her touching it would cause the cup to break into a million pieces. She lifted the cup to her lips before pulling back in surprise. “Oh!”
“Is there something wrong?” Blood asked raising an eyebrow.
“N-n-no its good.” Bridget said smiling. “It tastes like roses.”
“Indeed, it’s a tea from my hometown.’ Blood said. “There are plenty different kinds of tea there.”
The girl nodded. “Is it pretty in Wonderland?”
“Sometimes yes, it got too boring for my taste.” Blood said.
Bridget nodded, she seemed to understand that he did not want to talk about his life. Most girls would have pressed for more information. She was different. He liked it. He never felt this way about any girl before.
“So Bridget, what brings you out here?” he asked waving towards the garden.
Bridget seemed surprise that he addressed her by her first name. He usually called her Miss Verdant. “It seemed so nice outside; I thought I would come here to read.” Bridget said smiling.
“It is quite nice out today.” Blood said smiling. “What book are you reading?”
Bridget showed him the book she had in her hand. Romeo and Juliet. Blood was surprised that this girl would read such a tragedy. Her laughter caused him to look up at her,.
“I enjoy the classics.” She said. “It’s so sad yet romantic.”
“Yes…” Blood said with a sip of tea. “I guess those two taught us what romance is truly about.”
Bridget smiled and nodded. Blood slowly took her hand and kissed it lightly. “I enjoy spending time with you.’ He said.
“I- I do to.” The girl stammered as her face turned red.
Blood smiled again, he stood up and walked over to one of the rose bushes. Carefully picking one of them out, he walked over to Bridget. He slowly placed the rose behind her ear.
“I would love to spend more time with you, say tomorrow night?” He asked. “Come to my common room with your answer.” He slowly turned and walked away.
“What should I do?” Bridget asked the next day at lunch to the group of girls.
“He…seems nice.” Hinata said smiling.
“If you like him, its worth a shot.’ Maka responded.
Utau glanced at her friend, a pink bubble popped from her mouth. She sighed before answering. “Blood Dupre is nothing but a womanizer; if I were you I wouldn’t do it Bridget.”
“No!” Kiki said loudly. “You’ve got to do it Bridget. This could be your chance! Do it! Do it!”
Bridget stood up. “You’re right.” She said. “I’ve got to try.” She turned and ran out of the cafeteria. When she reached the door to the Venom Fang common room, she slowly knocked.
“Ah, Miss Bridget, what bring you to my neck of the woods?” Blood asked leaning against the doorway.
“I’ve got something to say to you.” She said.
“Very well.” Blood said.
“Yes. I would love to spend time with you tomorrow night.” Bridget said before walking away.
Blood smiled and shut the door as the girl disappeared. He turned back to the desk where he had been writing a letter to his father. He picked up the pen and finished the letter with one last sentence.
You don’t have to worry, I found someone. She makes me very happy.
