"What the? Alright! I'll tell you what happened. But I honestly don't see why you care so much." Clopin said, as he scowled at Grell. "Last night at dinner, Puck and I were discussing about how it would be like if we had magical powers. Eventually, we had decided that maybe Bob could grant us that. So we asked him to come with us out to the courtyard, and he told us that he would do so. However, after that was complete, Bob realized that we were no longer mortal. He said that because he was immortal, immortality passed through his horn to us, while giving us our magic." Clopin said.

Grell raised an eyebrow as he listened to the story. The boy seemed to be telling the truth, and he saw Puck nod in agreement to what Clopin had said. He turned to glare at Puck, not even caring that the boy was obviously hurt from the pen. It would heal soon enough, and it wouldn't do anything to him, so what did Grell care? "Puck, do you have any idea what this means?" Grell said lividly. Puck bit his lip, still holding his shoulder. He nodded, avoiding Grell's strict gaze. "Our contract is finished," he muttered. "Quite," Grell finished.

Clopin looked confusedly from Puck to Grell. "What contract?" he asked. "I demand to know what you two are talking about." he said, the tone in his voice becoming a bit stricter. A contract? Had he accidentally gotten Puck in trouble? Clopin bit his lip as he waited for an answer.

Puck looked at Grell pleadingly, shaking his head as Clopin asked what they were talking about. Please, he said with his eyes. Don't tell him. Grell ignored the boy's begging expression. Flipping his hair back curtly, he looked back to Clopin. "Oh, he didn't tell you? I suppose you don't even know how we met, do you?" Not waiting for an answer, Grell continued. "Over the summer, before freshman year, Puck was out walking the streets. He took a wrong turn and winded up getting the crap beat out of him by a couple of thugs. They left him there, lying in the streets to die. ANd who do you think the grim reaper who was to take his soul was?" Grell paused, pointing to his own chest. "Me. I showed up to collect his soul, but I had a chance to talk with him first. I liked him. He was different from most souls I had collected. Then William showed up," Grell scowled at the mention of his former boss' name. "He wanted to take his soul instead. Said I was taking too long. Anyway, long story short, I got fired for 'protecting' Puck over here." Grell motioned to the boy, who was avoiding everyone's gaze at the moment. "William left. And what did we do, Puck?" Puck sighed. "We made a deal," he answered quietly. "Yes. A deal saying that I would protect him and spare his life. And what did you promise in return, Puck?" Puck remained silent for a moment, not wanting to answer the shinigami's question. Finally, he muttered, "That I would allow you to kill me after highschool."

Clopin nodded carefully. "So you can't kill him now that he's immortal, right?" he asked, as he drew his knees up to his chin. "It's certainly interesting, that's for sure. But why did you act so lividly about it? He's only one soul out of the entire world. Losing him isn't much." Clopin said. "And according to Bob, it was an accident. He didn't even intend for us to become immortal." the gypsy said.

Grell scowled. "Why him? Well, I figured if I could kill the one person I 'protected', then maybe William would give me my job back!" Grell through his hands up in exasperation. "He wasn't honestly protecting me," Puck said. "He was arguing with him boss, and William got so annoyed that he eventually said that Grell must not want to kill me, and that he was stalling." Puck shook his head with a frown. He hadn't wanted anyone to know about he and Grell's contract. It made things awkward, and it was one of the reasons that he didn't have many friends. There was no use getting attached if you were going to die right after you graduated, right? But now it made a difference. It hadn't been especially difficult at the time to give up his life to Grell, seeing as how he had been bleeding to death on the street when he had agreed. Anything had to be better than dying out there. "And, of course, now I have this for nothing," Puck muttered, brushing away his hair to reveal a round scar on his neck. It was a circle that appeared to be made up of little points. Grell nodded. "To show that we are joined, and to help protect him from harm, I gave him my mark." Grell removed a black glove to show a similar looking mark on his own hand.

Kid stood outside the door listening to the story, So it was true, Grell was a shinigami, like his father. It made sense now. He couldn't believe it though, he thought that he was the only one at the school with that title.

Clopin nodded his head slowly. "That's something indeed." he mused. "But I have one question. If you knew you were going to die...why did you get so attached to me? I mean, it must have been quite a decision." the gypsy said, raising an eyebrow at Puck. Clopin was sure that Bob didn't know about this contract, since he had done everything so willingly. And immortality was an accident...right?

Puck shrugged, still looking away. "I never knew that...this was going to happen, " he held out his hands, motioning to the both of them. "And, I've known about it so long, that it's something I easily...forget," he admitted. Sighing, he closed his eyes. "And then, Bob came and gave us our immortality, and I was just so caught up with it and with you, that I didn't even think about our contract, Grell," Puck looked to the shinigami apologetically. Puck turned back to Clopin, biting his lip. "Clopin...I'm sorry. I should never have...I mean, I was stupid to try and..." Puck sighed, shaking his head. "It would have been better if I'd never gone and done this. I didn't want to die, but I made a deal, and..." Puck just shook his head, unable to think of what else to say.

Clopin tilted his head. "And what?" he asked carefully. It wasn't that he was upset about not knowing about this earlier, but he was worried. Would this be the end, leaving last night's events to be only a one-night stand? Clopin didn't know what it was, but for some reason, he really liked Puck, more than anything else. Was it because the other boy reminded him of himself?

Kid was starting to get impatient. He couldn't intrupt the teachers talking though, for that would be rude, he tried to think of everything he could do to distract himself

Puck bit his lip, still looking down. The stab from the pen was still making his shoulder sore, but that wasn't the pain that was bothering him at the moment. He didn't want to leave Clopin now, not after all that had happened last night, but there was no way that the gypsy could trust him now. He had let himself grow close to the other, allowed the other to grow close to himself, and he felt guilty for that. "Whoa, whoa, whoa," Grell frowned, putting his hands on his hips. "You're not telling me your thinking of breaking up with him now, Puck. Un-uh. Not after all of this," Grell pulled the paper from Puck's bag. "Listen, forget about the contract. We'll find some other way to get my job back. This...you two, are more important at the moment." Grell was still frowning, but this time it was out of frustration with Puck.

Clopin didn't speak at all. He was simply too shocked by what Grell had just said. "Wait...you're planning on breaking up with me?" he asked, with a sad look in his eyes as he turned to face Puck. "I'm seriously confused. Why are we more important, hm?" Clopin asked Grell. Were they some part of the shinigami's plan? Or were they a part of something else?

Grell blinked, unsure of how to answer it. "You two are just...you're both different, from any other student that I've ever had. And, as you know, I'm a firm believer in true love, and if you ask me, you've got it." Puck looked up at Clopin. "No, I mean, I don't want to," he shook his head. "But...how can you trust me now? After I kept something like this from you?" He looked back sadly, guilt clearly visible in his eyes.
